Her work, grounded in a minimalist sense of form and the aesthetics of emptiness, transforms familiar shapes into unfamiliar ones, awakening new perspectives in the viewer’s gaze. Even within the small medium of the brooch, she reveals a highly refined visual language and a spirit of experimentation, while continuing to expand the scale and themes of her expression.

제 작업은 일상 속에서 마주하는 사물들을 새로운 시선으로 바라보는 데서 출발합니다. 무심코 지나치는 물건들과 그 사물의 골조를 탐색하고 너무 익숙해서 더 이상 인식하지 않게 되는 것들을 다시 들여다보는 일… 저는 그 속에서 장신구의 시작점을 찾습니다.

사물이 가진 고유한 형태와 기능과 구조는 장신구라는 새로운 문법 안에서 해체되고 다시 조합됩니다. 원래의 맥락에서 벗어난 사물의 요소들이 몸 위로 옮겨지는 과정을 통해 그 의미는 낯설어지고 새롭게 인지된다고 생각합니다. 이 과정은 단순한 조형의 재구성이 아니라 감상자와 착용자 모두에게 사물을 다르게 경험하는 방식에 대한 질문을 던지는 시도이기도 합니다.

두개의 브로치 작업 시리즈는 우리가 대상을 어떻게 바라보는가 그리고 그 시선에 어떤 의지가 담겨 있는가에 대한 질문에서 출발했습니다.

우리는 종종 사물을 스쳐 지나가듯 바라보며 그 본질을 놓치곤 합니다. 그러나 조금 더 시간을 들여 다양한 시선으로 관찰하고 천천히 들여다본다면 정면뿐 아니라 측면, 윗면, 아래면에 이르기까지 대상의 숨겨진 구조와 새로운 면모가 드러나기 시작합니다. 이는 단순히 형상이 달라지는 것이 아니라 우리의 감각과 인식이 달라지는 경험이기도 합니다. 어떤 대상을 오래 바라보다 보면 그 대상은 단순한 것이 아니라 나와 관계 맺는 존재로 변화합니다. 그 기억은 몸과 감각 속에 스며들고 그로 인해 대상은 더욱 특별한 의미를 갖게 됩니다.

두 개의 브로치 시리즈는 바로 이런 감상의 과정을 담고 있습니다. 위에서 보면 단순한 원형과 사각형의 평면적인 형태지만, 자세를 낮춰 옆에서 바라보면 그 안에 숨겨진 구조와 형상이 서서히 드러납니다. 마치 사물의 내면을 탐색하듯이 감상자의 시선에 따라 작품은 다른 얼굴을 보여줍니다.

The two brooch series begin with a question: How do we look at objects, and what kind of intention lies within that gaze?
We often glance at things in passing and miss their essence. Yet if we take more time—observing from different perspectives and looking more closely—we begin to discover hidden structures and new aspects not only from the front, but also from the side, the top, and the underside. This is not merely a change of form; it is also a transformation of our senses and perception. When we gaze at something for a long time, it ceases to be a simple object and instead becomes a presence that relates to us. The memory of that encounter seeps into our body and senses, giving the object a deeper and more personal meaning.

These two brooch series embody such a process of appreciation. From above, they appear as simple circular and rectangular flat forms. But when one lowers their viewpoint to look from the side, hidden structures and shapes gradually reveal themselves. Like exploring the inner world of an object, the works show different faces depending on the viewer’s gaze.

“지붕의 형태와 구조는 보여지는 현재와 보이지 않는 과거를 추측하게 하는 소통의 통로이며, 사라져가는 추억과 시간을 담고 있는 기록이다.”

이 작품은 사물에 대한 낯선 시선을 통해 익숙함 속의 특별함을 발견하고 잊혀진 시간과 공간의 감각을 되살려보는 시도입니다.

익숙한 사물은 쉽게 스쳐 지나가지만, 시선의 방향을 바꾸는 순간 전혀 다른 모습이 드러나기도 합니다. 이 작업은 그런 시선의 변화와 관찰의 깊이에 주목했습니다.

특히 지붕이라는 구조물을 통해 보이는 현재와 보이지 않는 과거가 교차하는 지점을 탐색했습니다. 지붕은 단순한 건축 요소를 넘어 시간과 기억을 담고 있는 소통의 매개체로 작용한다고 생각합니다.

Roof 시리즈는 익숙한 것에서 새로운 의미를 발견하려는 시도였고 바라보는 행위는 곧 관계를 만드는 일이 되며 그렇게 사물은 나만의 감각과 기억 속에서 다시 살아납니다.

“The form and structure of a roof serve as a channel of communication, allowing us to imagine both the visible present and the unseen past, while holding within them fading memories and the passage of time.”

This work is an attempt to rediscover the specialness hidden within the familiar by casting an unfamiliar gaze upon objects, and to revive a sense of forgotten time and space.
Familiar things are often overlooked, yet the moment we shift our perspective, they reveal entirely different faces. This work pays attention to such shifts in gaze and the depth of observation.

In particular, it explores the point where the visible present and the invisible past intersect through the structure of the roof. I see the roof not merely as an architectural element, but as a medium of communication that carries time and memory.

The Roof series was an effort to uncover new meanings within the familiar. In the act of looking, a relationship is created, and thus objects come alive again within my own senses and memories.
